A boiler can appear to be working while wear, contamination or combustion issues are developing. Planned servicing gives a Gas Safe registered engineer the chance to check safety, condition and performance.
Why service annually?
- Check that the boiler is operating safely
- Identify faults before they become breakdowns
- Keep the appliance working as intended
- Support manufacturer warranty requirements where applicable
What about the magnetic filter?
A magnetic filter is designed to catch circulating iron-oxide debris before it reaches the boiler. If one is fitted, it should be checked and cleaned as appropriate during planned maintenance. Ask what is included when booking, as service scopes vary.
What to send when booking
The boiler make and model, its approximate age, any fault code and details of recent pressure loss or unusual noise all help the engineer prepare.

Gas Safe Register recommends an annual safety check and service unless the appliance manufacturer advises otherwise.
